Mapping the Rabbit Hole
It's time to wrap up the series on early 19th century chess periodicals. It began with:-
- 2019-02-14: Down the Rabbit Hole • Google Books
First I spent some time becoming familiar with the resource:-
- 2019-03-15: Berliner 'Schachzeitung' • DE
- 2019-03-22: Le Palamede • FR
- 2019-03-29: Chess Player’s Chronicle • UK
- 2019-04-05: Chess Player’s Chronicle : Frequency • UK
- 2019-04-12: Other 'Schachzeitungen' • German language
- 2019-04-19: Chess Sources for Google Books • Large collections
Then I spent some time looking at early U.S. periodicals:-
- 2019-04-26: Early American Chess Periodicals • DE => US
- 2019-05-03: Five Volumes of 'Chess Monthly' • US
- 2019-05-10: Paul Morphy, Editor
- 2019-05-17: Paul Morphy, Annotator
- 2019-05-24: D.W.Fiske Bio
I finished the series with a look at other French sources:-
- 2019-05-31: After 'Le Palamede' • FR
- 2019-06-07: 19th Century Chess Culture • 'Bibliographie anecdotique du jeu des échecs' by Jean Gay (1864)
There were a few posts branching from the above, mainly documenting images that I'd encountered along the way. The next step, which shouldn't take much time, will be to catalog the various periodicals by year.
